Three of our teachers at Zebulon Middle School retired this school year. Terrie Livingston, Bobby Holliman, and Gordon Sauls have all spent meaningful years at ZMS and will be missed.
Livingston, a beloved language arts teacher, retired just before Christmas break.
“I just knew it was time, time to start a new chapter in life,” Livingston said.
Livingston taught language arts and social studies. Lovett Bryant and Vicki Webb, teachers at Zebulon Middle, have agreed to take Livingston’s spot.
“I’ll miss my friends that have become my family, I love seeing the children everyday and watching them grow,” Livingston said.
Sauls has been a teacher for 32 years, and like Mrs. Livingston, retired just before Christmas break. The kids loved him because he made gym fun, instead of exhausting.
“I like students who understand and improve their fitness level,” Sauls said. “I try to be a good example for them.”
Sauls also taught guitar to Zebulon middle students and hopes to continue.
“I want to build a studio and teach private guitar lessons after I retire,” Sauls said.
Sauls and Holliman and were in the school band The Incompletes together, and now their retiring together. Holliman taught wood shop and morning show.
“I think my students know enough to carry on without me,” Holliman said
He may not be the best singer but students say he was the best teacher.
“It’s great to see a student learn, and really get it,” Holliman said.
Every teacher is different and has their own way of connecting with the students, which is why Zebulon Middle School will miss them so much.
